Welcome Baby Jonathan!

This weekend, my friend Jodi and I threw a baby shower for our neighbor, Krista, and her little boy Jonathan. Krista wasn't due until early October, but Mr. J decided to surprise everyone earlier this week with his arrival. Luckily, he is doing well and thriving under the watchful eye of the NICU nursing staff. Mama made it home from the hospital in time and insisted that the party must go on. Jonathan was showered with lots of fun gifts and it was evident that he is already so loved! Congrats to Krista, Brian and Big Brother, Christopher!

I hear wedding bells...

This past weekend, we traveled out to New Braunfels for our annual float trip down the Guadelupe River. Unfortunately, with this Texas draught, we couldn't float the big river, so we opted for the Comal River. The weather was blazing hot, but the water was nice and cold. We joined Greg's best friend, Terrence and his girlfriend, Kristina for the weekend, along with their families and many of their friends. Terrence and Kris met the night before our wedding through Greg's hometown friend, Heath, and fiance, Meredith. Little did Kristina know, but Terrence had a ring burning a hole in his pocket. After a long day on the river, the whole group headed to Gruene for wine and dinner where Terrence surprised her with a proposal. Between the tears of happiness, Kristina said YES and everyone helped them celebrate their engagement. I, unfortunately, had my first bout with heat exhaustion and had to go back to the cabin early. But Greg & I are so excited that T & Kris are going to tie the knot soon. We love them both and cannot wait until their big day!

A Backyard Paradise

Well...maybe we can't quite call it "paradise" yet, but we are well on our way. Anyways, back in the late winter Greg & I talked about extending our patio out further and doing a stamped overlay to make it more visually pleasing. The project was started back in March but ended up being a little more than we bargained for. After months of construction, de-construction, patio furniture in our grass, tears (from me), and negotiations, we FINALLY have a beautiful patio to enjoy. Now if only the heat would slack off so we can stand to be outside for more than 5 minutes.

We are so pleased with the final product and are looking forward to enjoying our new patio.

Oh, my rose of San Antone...

Earlier this summer, Greg & I spent a long weekend in San Antonio. He had won a 3 nights stay at the La Cantera golf resort, so we decided to go down a night early and spend an evening on the Riverwalk. During our stay, we enjoyed many great meals, a sweaty day at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and a lot of relaxing hours by the swimming pool.

Who knew I was a Matchmaker??

First let me give you the abridged background story on how I met Stephen... About 14 or 15 years ago, a new guy moved to my high school. He quickly became great friends with my boyfriend at that time, which in turn made him my friend by default :-) He and I remained friends beyond high school break-ups and tried to keep up with each other through college, but as time and distance often do, we somewhat lost touch. Then after each of us had graduated from college and started our professional careers, by coincidence, we rented the apartments directly across the hall from each other. Needless to say, our friendship was quickly rekindled.

Flash forward 3 years...I had been working at my current job for a few years when they hired this young, vibrant college graduate, Katie. Since she & I sat in the cubicles next to one another and learned that we had so much in common, it was inevitable that we would become fast friends. I still call her my work sister because we spend so much time together and I honestly feel like she is a little sister to me.

One day, my mom, who knew both Katie & Stephen, suggested we introduce them. I decided that they seemed to have a lot in common and were both not currently dating anyone, so why not introduce them. Greg & I arranged for a group date to the Zach Brown Band concert. Katie & Stephen hit it off and were inseparable in no time.

This past weekend, Katie & Stephen were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at the Courtyard at St. James here in Houston. I was honored to be a part of their wedding house party and enjoyed celebrating with both of their families. The Bride was stunning and I could not be prouder to call them both my friends. Here are a few pictures from the wedding. Congratulations Katie & Stephen! I love you both and wish you many years of happiness ahead!

So Proud to Call her Mom!

As the kids get ready to go back to school, I can't help but reflect on the fact that after almost 25 years of teaching at Winship Elementary (not counting the years "Pre- Jill & Lindsey"), my Mom has will be enjoying her retirement this fall. Not only am I proud of my mother as a woman, I so proud of what he has contributed to the education of hundreds of students over the years. So many of my friends had her as a teacher, and now I have friends who taught along beside of her. I never get tired of hearing them say what a wonderful teacher, mentor, or second mother she has been to them. At the beginning of the summer, Mom was honored by the staff at Winship Elementary with a lovely reception. I honestly got goosebumps hearing her co-workers talk about how she had influenced them over the years. I know they feel lucky to have had her as a friend and co-worker, but she is also so lucky to have them as well.

Jill & I, along with Greg & Tommy, also threw a cocktail party to show her how proud we are and excited we are to see her in retirement. It was great to have so many of her friends in one place to celebrate her success over the years.

I know Mom will find plenty to do now that she's retired. She's already enjoying catching up with old friends and planning an East Coast cruise with Dad in the fall. Best Wishes Mom and enjoy every second of your retirement! xoxo

Exciting times for our Friends!!

Well, over the past few months, we have been able to celebrate some significant events in our friends' lives and were so excited to do so. First, our good friends, Jeff & Michelle Ellis welcomed their first baby, Jaxon Jeffrey. Greg and I made sure we stopped by right after he came home from the hospital to bring Mommy & Daddy a hot meal and to get some snuggle time in with the man himself. He is such a cutie and a great baby at that! Congratulations Jeff and Michelle on your growing family!!

Also, our friends Tiffany Thames and Slade Mitchell were married on May 21st. Tiffany's brother, Terrence, is one of Greg's best friends, so Tiffany and her family have become a second family to Greg (and now me). They had the most beautiful small town wedding and we truly had a great time! Congratulations Tiffany & Slade! May your life be blessed with many happy years together!

The Beautiful Bride & Her Handsome Groom

Our Crew

Finally, this past week, one of my oldest and dearest friends, Kelly Townsend, had her first baby, Hannah Lee. Kelly & I grew up together and were cheerleaders together in high school. Feels like yesterday that we were rooming together as summer cheer camp and now she has become a mother!! I got to drop by and see them at the hospital on Friday and it was such a joy to hold Hannah. She is as beautiful as her mama and I'm so happy for Kelly & Austin and their new bundle of joy. Unfortunately, I forgot to stick the camera in that day, so I borrowed this cell phone photo I received when she was born so you could see Miss Hannah! Congrats Kelly & Austin!
