Happy Birthday to Me!!

Yes , ladies & gentlemen, it is my BIG 31st  Birthday today!  I know they're not supposed to count any more after 30, but I still love celebrating!  I love celebrating everything I have been blessed with over the past 31 years!  I love celebrating my next 31+ years!

This year, my birthday has fallen on Houston's beloved "Go Texan Day".  For those of you who ain't from around here, Go Texan Day marks the kick off the the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo festivities.

I love everything related to the rodeo...seeing trail-riders going down the interstate, the world famous bbq cook-off, the parade, and of course, the Rodeo!  At work, we're celebrating by wearing jeans (yes, this is a rarity around here) and having a chili cook off during lunch.  Wish me luck on my chili recipe!  Maybe I'll take home the blue ribbon!

Greg and I are spending the weekend at the casino in Louisiana.  So, please send some birthday luck our way!  Hopefully, we'll hit it big on a black jack table!  I'm more looking forward to a spa day.  I'm in much need of a massage!  For my birthday, Greg got me this beautiful camera bag!  I have been eyeing it since we bought the DSLR, so he surprised me with it for my birthday.  I've actually had it for about a month now :-)

My parents sent me some birthday money, so I'm using it to buy a CND Shellac UV Light.  I know...sounds weird, but I've been paying monthly to get the shellac put on my nails and once I priced the curing light, I figured it would easily pay for itself.  My sister got one for Christmas so I tried hers out first to make sure I was capable of an at-home shellac mani/ pedi.  Can't wait for it to be delivered next week!

Oh How Pinteresting

It's that time again...I'm linking up with Michelle at The Vintage Apple for "Oh How Pinteresting!".  But you're in for a surprise today!  Instead of sharing some of my favorite Pins of late, I'm going to share some of my successful Pinterest projects.  I have got to be honest...I've kind of been a little obsessed lately.  And I feel like the sales people at Michaels & Hobby Lobby know me by name.

This was my very first Pinterest project.  I am such a planner when it comes to cooking for the week.  Every weekend, I sit down, plan out our meals, make my grocery list and knock out the shopping.  Well, my menu for the week usually ends up on the back of an envelope in the bottom of my purse.  And half the time, I'd forget what we were even having.  Sooo...I saw this brilliant idea on Pinterest and knew it would be the perfect addition to our kitchen.

This project filled this blank spot on our hallway wall perfectly!  I found the decal on Etsy and transferred it directly to the glass on an Aarons Brothers frame.

I keep all my costume jewelry in a hanging organizer in my closet.  But I have some "everyday" earrings and delicate necklaces that really can't be stuffed into a little plastic pocket.  They would all end up laying on my dressing table and eventually covered in a nice thin layer of hairspray.  So, when I saw this on Pinterest, I thought it would be the perfect solution to my problem.  And when Jessica at Love from Texas did a tutorial on how to make one, I had no more excuses.  I even made one for my friend, Liz, for her birthday!

I love cooking with fresh herbs, but I hate buying them at the grocery store.  I don't use the whole package, forget about it in the crisper, and end up finding a bag of black mush a month or so later...YUCK!  So, this little Pinterest project was the answer to my mini-gardening prayers.  I stacked three galvanized buckets and planted some of my favorite and most used herbs.  I also threw in a strawberry plant for good measure :)  The Pinterest example didn't have the markers, but I thought adding the chalkboard-looking stakes added to the cuteness!

Finally, this project was an afterthought.  I just thought this little vase to hold make up brushes was cute and a great way to keep the brushes clean, and alleviate some of the make-up drawer clutter.

So, I hope you enjoyed my projects!  I sure had fun making them and am having fun using all of them!  I know it won't be the last of my projects.  I just hope Greg doesn't get too annoyed with me getting him to cut boards, drill holes, etc, etc.  Who knew he'd be such a key part of my Pinterest life!!

I Love a Rainy Night

Happy Monday peeps (psst...Monday of my birthday week may I add)!  Greg and I had a great weekend around the house.  Mother Nature decided to give Houston a massive downpour on Friday, just in time for me to commute home from work.  So, after a 2 hour drive, I was so happy to come home to Greg cleaning the house and cooking dinner (what a gem he can be!).  While we ate, he decided that we should paint the insets in our sheetrock a contrasting color.  Note:  I have wanted to do this since we moved in, but we just haven't gotten around to it.  So, luckily, this rainy Friday night was the perfect night for a little home improvement.  Luckily, we had the paint from our dining room project that is yet to be complete.  I cranked up Pandora on the tv (DirectTV's saving grace in my opinion) and we got to painting.

I love how it turned out and Greg did such a good job with all the details.  There's still a few accents walls that I would like to do, but I think we might just have to bring in the professionals for that one!

Another quick side note...  last weekend, Greg & I attended a Valentines Charity dinner party for a local family in need.  It was a great event and we really enjoyed it!  We are both suckers for a silent auction (I guess we both have a competitive streak).  My item of choice for the evening was a beautiful pot rack.  I have wanted a pot rack for a while now and what better way to buy one than when the proceeds go to a good cause.  Well, I won it and Greg and our wonderful neighbor, Alan, installed it this past weekend.  Isn't it beautiful??  I love it and think it really adds something to the kitchen!

And look!  Dinner's already started!

Product of the Week

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Hey gals!  Can you believe we've almost made it to Friday??  Hallelujah!  And for those of you that know me and my job, its our fiscal year end, so weekends are a much needed blessing.  Today I'm linking up with Aly & Tiffanie for their Product of the Week.

My Product of the Week is the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred!!

http://www.news-pulse.com/jillian-michaels-30-day-shred

I just started this program, but I am so excited about it.  My problem with working out is that I need structure.  So, I tend to end up at the gym in a cardio class or on a treadmill.  Soooo....no toning for me.  Don't get me wrong, I love to lift some weight and tone, but I just have the patience to plan out my work out and personal trainers are just so dang expensive!  So, Jillian seems like the perfect gal for me!

The 30 Day Shred plan is a 20 minute (30 minutes including her instructions) work out that you do for 30 days straight to see results.  I figured I can allow 30 extra minutes a day to do this toning video along with my typical cardio.  Heck, I already got up this morning and knocked out day #2!!  Jillian is tough!!  If you've seen "The Biggest Loser", you know what a tough, but motivating trainer she can be.  As much as I want to quit, she makes me push further, as if she's right there in the room with me!!

So, I'm hoping this helps to jump start my Weight Watchers journey and get me into the perfect dress for the wedding we're going to at the end of March.  I hope to have some results for you guys in 28 days!!  Wish me luck!!

To My Valentine

To my Valentine...  Greg, on this Valentine's Day, I want to share with you how much you mean to me.  I know I tell you I love you every day, but I don't actually get a chance to express how important you are to me.  Over the past 4 years of knowing each other, and 2 years of marriage, I have realized how blessed I am to have you in my life.  I love the way you make me smile and laugh with your silly ways.  I love what a hard worker you are to make our home beautiful and to provide for our family.  I love what a good uncle you are to Claire and Kate and I know, by watching you with them, that you are going to be an amazing father.  I love how close you are with your family and how you honor your Mother.  I love how you take care of me and spoil me :)  I love you as my best friend  and my lover.  You are an amazing man and I cannot imagine life without you.  I know we have so much to look forward together and I cannot wait to start that part of our life.  I love you more than words can say!

I think our wedding song says it best...

I'll be here when the sky turns gray The sun goes blind and the moon won't stay I'll be the light to guide your way onto some place new I'll be here when the crowd is gone The last note fades on the very last song I'll be the road to take you home I'll be here for you

Blogging Link up with A Complete Waste of Makeup

Happy Monday!! We had a great weekend here...actual "winter" weather, a girls night out with my sister to celebrate our birthdays (we're exactly a month and five years apart), and we got to hang out with some great friends.

Today, I'm linking up with one of my favorite bloggers, Neely, for a blogging link up. She's hosting this link up for those who want to get their blog out there and for us to find some great blogs to start following. So, without further adieu, here's a little bit about me and my life as a blogger. I started blogging back in January of 2010 right after Greg & I got married, just as a way to share our life with family and friends that we don't see very often. My first post can be found here, and I have to say that my first year, I was not a very good blogger with only 15 posts. But in 2011, I discovered some amazing blogs out there that I started to follow and realized that there was an wonderful community of bloggers out there and I wanted to be a part of it! So, I stepped up my game some and begin blogging more and about other things...recipes, home improvement projects, entertaining, etc.  I love blogging, but I especially love reading other blogs out there.  I have met some wonderful ladies through blogging, although most I haven't met in person, but hope to some day.

So, if  you're visiting from Neely's blog, I hope you enjoy reading a few of my posts and I hope you'll be back.  Leave me a comment with your blog because I'd love to check out your blogs.  And most importantly, THANKS for stopping by!!

Believe...Because it Works

Courtesy of www.a-personaldietitian.com/

Ugh...I dread this topic, but no better place to talk about it and keep me accountable than this blog.  I can never say I've been "fat" per se, but I have had to "watch it" for as long as I can remember.  And unfortunately, since Greg & I met, I've gotten "comfortable" to say the least.  Gone are the days of prancing around in a bikini without a care in the world.  Gone are the days of only having to worry about myself, spending hours at the gym and eating a quick bowl of cereal for dinner.  Now, I have a husband who I cannot wait to get home from the office to cook for and spend time with.  The last thing I want to do after an hour commute is get on a treadmill.

Flash forward 3 years to today.  I'm 10 pounds heavier than when we met and we are having serious discussions about starting our family.  So, what better time to get my weight under control and my dietary habits in check than before there's a bun in the oven.  So, since last Monday, I have officially joined Weight Watchers for the zillionth time.  I've done their program before, and IT WORKS!  The first time I did WW was back in college when I was doing my intership in Houston.  My Mom and I joined together to get those pesky few pounds off that had crept up over the past couple of years.  We were both so successful, and I was the smallest I had ever been in my adult life.  Now, I know I'll probably never meet that original goal, 'cause let's face it...this 30 year old body is just not the same as it was 10 years ago.  But I know that if I can stick to the plan and track what I eat, then I can drop 10 pounds and enjoy that whole other wardrobe in the back of my closet.

I don't intend on this becoming a dieting blog, but I would like for it to be a periodic outlet that will hopefully keep me accountable.  I do hope to post some good healthy recipes that I find along the way, and maybe celebrate some milestones and successes with you guys.  So, I hope you don't mind helping me out in this (hopefully quick) little journey I've begun.  Feel free to drop me a line of encouragement or give me a swift kick in the rear when I get lazy :-)  So here's to a new, healthier lifestyle!!

Geoff & Laura's Engagment Party

Weekend before last, my in-laws threw my brother-in-law, Geoff, and his fiancĂ©, Laura, an engagement party in Greg's hometown. Since party planning tends to be a slight obsession of mine, Cindy (my MIL) asked me to help plan out some decorations. So, me, Cindy & my sister-in-law, Raquel, put our heads together and consulted our good friend, Pinterest to come up with a cutsie down-home theme for the Oscar Store event room. The party turned out great! The food was delicious and Geoff & Laura loved seeing all of their friends and family. What a great way to kick off the beginning of all their wedding festivities!  Greg & I could not be more excited to be a part of their wedding day in October!!

So, here's a quick snapshot of the party...

Just a little background on this picture.  Greg & Geoff's Granddad is not big on geting his picture made.  But when I came around with the camera and took this one, he couldn't have been prouder to pose with his grandsons.  I know the guys will cherish this great picture for years to come!

Well Ladies & Gents....Here it is!!  I'm so excited about my new blog, I can hardly stand it!  Jenn at Munchkinland Designs did an amazing job of incorporating a little bit of my personality into my blog space.  I know she ran into a couple of pitfalls during the process, but she came out on top with this blog design.  Thank you Lindsay at Our Lovely Life for the recommendation!  Now I have a cutie blog, just like you!  So, anyways, I hope you all love it as much as I do!  Oh, and make sure you grab my button to share with your readers!

What I'm Loving Wednesday!!

Oh Geez!  Can this week be any slower??  Only Wednesday, huh?  Well, let's make the best of it by linking up with Jamie for What I'm Loving Wednesday

Lately, I have been loving this rainy Houston weather!  This past year has been so dry, so any extended periods of rain are welcome around here.  And I love the lazy feel of a rainy day.  Granted, I do not like what it does to Houston traffic...I had a 3 hour round trip commute yesterday...YUCK!

Since I finally finished "The Help" (loved the movie too, by the way) last week, I was desperate to find a new book to read before our drive to the in-laws last weekend (gotta love the IPad and that night reading).  Anyways, my good friend, Kelly, recommended "The Hunger Games" series.  I'm not usually into the fad series (eh hem, Twilight), but I decided to give this one a try.  And guess what...I'm loving it!  The plot is so interesting and the author does a great job with her character development, in my opinion.

And finally, I'm really loving the fact that I'M GETTING A BLOG MAKE-OVER!!  Yeah!!  Jenn, at Munchkinland Designs, has been working so hard to make Simply Smith simply beautiful!  I cannot wait to see the finished product.  In the meantime, here's a little sneak peek at my new & improved blog design!!
