Product of the Week

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Happy Friday Everyone!  Or happy almost Friday to those of you who don't have tomorrow off like I do ;-)
Today I'm linking up with Tiffanie for Product of the Week.  My friend and neighbor is a Mary Kay sales consultant and came over a few weeks ago to give me, my sis & my mom a "Goodnight Facial".  It was so fun to try out all the products and go to bed with our faces feeling so soft and fresh!  I ordered a few fun products from her (Thank you Ali!!) and have really been enjoying them.  I haven't tried Mary Kay products in well over 10 years and I can tell you that I think they have really improved!   In the past, I have been a "lucky if my face gets washed with Ivory" kind of girl.  But with all my new products, I can really tell a difference in the look and texture of my skin.

My favorite product so far is their Timewise Microdermabrasion Set!  I do the two-step process twice a week before I go to bed, and wake up with the softest face ever!  I can really tell a difference and hope it helps slow down the aging process (an over-30 girl can dream, right?).

I'm looking forward to continue "playing" in my  new beauty products!  I'll let you guys know if I discover anything new and cool!

Bluebonnet Time in Texas

Over the weekend, my Uncle Howard, Mom's youngest brother, came to visit from Georgia.  While he was here, we scheduled our annual trek to Round Top, Texas to eat at Royer's Round Top Cafe and to see the bluebonnets.  If you haven't been to Royer's and live in Texas, it's totally worth the drive.  Not only is it the most eclectic little diner, the owner is quite a character and the food is southern comfort food to die for!  They've even been featured on the Food Network's "Road Tasted" with Jamie & Bobby Deen.  They are known for their pies but I'm kind of partial to their fried chicken (which is only served on Sundays).

After we got more than our fill of chicken & pie, we headed out to find a nice patch of bluebonnets for some pictures.  For those of you not from Texas, the bluebonnet is our state flower.  It's somewhat of a right of passage growing up to go out in the early spring and get your picture taken in them.  They bloom in huge patches and make a gorgeous backdrop!  Its fun to drive down the highway this time of year and see families pulled off the road taking pictures.  It must look somewhat odd to an outsider.

What a perfect spring day!!  Thanks Uncle Howard for coming to visit and we can't wait to see you again in May!!

The Hunger Games

I kicked off this weekend with and early showing of The Hunger Games!

My sister-in-law, Laura, and I caught the early "old peoples" showing of it on Saturday.  And it did not disappoint.  I will try not to have any spoilers in here for those of you who have not read the book (although I highly recommend it).  Here are a few of my favorite parts and comments on the movie in general.

The casting was impeccable!  Stanley Tucci and Woody Harrelson were perfect  choices for those characters!  I went into the movie very skeptical of Lenny Kravitz playing Cinna, but I think he did a great job!

The Reaping scene was very well done!  I think the screenwriters were smart to leave out the part where Haymitch falls off the stage.  It really kept the somberness of the scene.

I loved the costuming for the Capitol people!  The bright colors and off-the-wall fashions were so key catching!  But, let's hope that is not the way we're heading to as a society ;-)  Very Lady GaGa-esque!

There were a few parts where I got emotional... 1)  The Reaping (I mean, who wouldn't?), 2)  One word...Rue (so sweet when Katniss places the flowers around her, 3)  Katniss & Peeta in the cave (Just a beautiful representation of love...even if they were "faking").

For the record, I'm Team Peeta!

So if you haven't had a chance, go see it!  I think it's a great movie even for those who have not read the book.  I'm not one for sci-fi, but I truly enjoyed every second!

My Productive Bachelorette Weekend

This past weekend, Greg was off fishing for his high school buddy's bachelor party.  So, I took advantage of having no distractions to get some much needed cleaning and organizing done.  I even took a "personal day" from work on Friday to get a jump start on my projects.

Friday, I spent most of the day running errands with my mom while my car was getting serviced.  It was so great to spend the day hanging with Mom since we don't get to do that very often.  Thanks Mom for being my chauffeur all weekend :-)  When I got home, the deep spring cleaning began! Oh, how therapeutic it can be!  Saturday morning, I got my grocery shopping done with Mom since my car was still being worked on. and finished up my cleaning along with fitting in a nice lunch with my adorable nieces :)  That evening, I got to watch two movies (Footloose & The Descendants), which I never get to do.  I also decided to work on a spring wreath and spruce up the house with some springtime/ Easter decor.  I think now that this is done, I am going to make it interchangeable for different seasons.  The burlap is so versatile!

Sunday morning, I got up and started a MAJOR closet overhaul.  I try to weed through my clothes about twice a year and donate to charity.  This time, along with cleaning it out, I also tackled a project that I have been wanting to do for years...putting photos on my shoe boxes.  I love the way it looks and it really helps me remember what shoes I have.

Closet organization...FINALLY

Greg got home early afternoon with a cooler full of fish.  So, he decided he would fry us up some yummy dinner.  I made a couple mashed potatoes and jalapeno cream corn (via Pinterest).  Nothing about this mean was healthy, but it was oh-so tasty and comforting.  I loved enjoying it with my sweets after missing him all weekend!

Although I missed Greg like crazy, I know he needed a weekend away with the guys, and I made the best of my weekend with the pups!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Hey everyone!  Today, I'm linking up with Jamie again for What I'm Loving Wednesday.  First and foremost, I'm loving to that today is my Thursday and tomorrow is my FRIDAY!  Woo hoo for taking personal days!  I have so much to catch up on around the house and Greg's leaving for a bachelor party on Friday morning, so I'm taking advantage of the quiet house to get ahead on my chores.

This week, I've been loving Musinex D.  I've been a little under the weather, to say the least, and this little behind the counter beauty has been my best friend.

For some odd reason, I purchased Mootopia Reduced Fat Chocolate milk at HEB this week and I'm totally loving it!  I can't tell you the last time I bought chocolate milk, but I have enjoyed a small glass every night this week for my dessert.  I guess you can say I'm getting my vitamin D in!  If you live in the south and have HEB, I highly recommend Mootopia!  Yum Yum!

Today, I'm loving the fact that Greg & I are going tomorrow to the Houston Rodeo to see Jason Aldean.  This will be our 3rd year to see him and I have faith that he will not disappoint.  I love all of his songs and he always puts on a great show.  This will be our only rodeo performance this year so I'm really looking forward to it!

Finally, today I'm loving the fact that the Josh Abbott Band finally released the video to the song "Touch" and all I can say is WOW!  What a emotional and moving video!  It's like a mini-movie!  Such a wonderful song and the boys did it justice with a wonderful video starring the gorgeous Melissa Rycroft of The Bachelor & Dancing with the Stars fame.  Please watch and enjoy!

Tuesday Check-in

Sorry I've been a little MIA in the blogging world.  Not much going on here, so I guess I have no excuse (or nothing to blog about...haha).  Just a couple updates on what's been going on in my life.  Nothing too exciting but I do have some recipes to share!

This past week, I started the Couch to 5K training program.  I don't really have a 5K picked out to run, so I'm really just doing this to help increase my running stamina.  So far, it's been great!  I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the nice spring weather and the daylight savings time hours.  I'm still doing the Jillian Michaels Shred, but the running helps break up the monotony of it all.  I've done at Couch to 5K before, but this time, I got smart and downloaded an Iphone app to track my intervals.  I just crank up my Rhianna station no Pandora and start running.  No thinking needed!

This past weekend, Greg & I headed to Temple to help his parents move.  We are so excited for them because they sold their house and have started to build their dream home!  Right now, they're renting until the house is ready.  I cannot wait to see the finished product!

Finally, last night I tried a couple new Pinterest recipes and they were by far two of my favorites!  The first was the Pinterest proclaimed "Best Pork Chops You'll Ever Taste".  They were very easy and super tasty!  Loved the kick of ranch dressing!  Side note:  The amount of breading could probably be halved to cover 4-6 pork chops.  I ended up wasting a lot of bread crumbs.  Also, mine did not turn out nearly as pretty as the picture, but I'm positive they tasted just as well!

As I side, I made twice baked red potatoes!  These were absolutely divine!!  Instead of baking the potatoes in the oven, I cut the first step in half by using the microwave.  The feta cheese really added something and made these a yummy and unique side dish.  I WILL be making these again soon!

This week is projected to be super busy, but I'm looking forward to taking Friday off for some "me" time.  Hope you all enjoy the rest of your week!

Just to make you smile...

I don't usually do two posts in one day, but I had to share this cute video of my youngest niece, Kate, this weekend.  She's such a ham and this little dance is proof!  I love her to pieces!!

A Day at the Zoo

Well, Sunday night has once again come too quick.  Greg and I did have a great weekend though.  We started out with a relaxing Friday night and Saturday morning.  Greg took a golf lesson with a family friend of ours who is a golf pro and new to the area (let us know if you need to improve your game!).  I caught up on grocery shopping, laundry and the rest of the usual weekend chores.

Then the fun started!  My sister, Jill, and her husband, Tommy, had a mini-vacation in NYC and the nieces had been staying at my parents'.  So, Greg & I offered to keep them for this last night, partially to give Granna & Granddad a night of reprieve, but mostly because we love keeping them!  We started out the evening by going out for pizza.  We enjoyed the beautiful spring-like weather by catching a mini music festival while we waited for our table.

This morning, we got up and headed to the Houston Zoo to take advantage of the gorgeous day and see some animals.  The girls loved the zoo and were completely pooped out by the end of the day.  We are so lucky to live in a city with a great venue like the Houston Zoo.  And boy has it changed since I had been there over 20 years ago!!  Greg & Kate both enjoyed their first visit!
