A Hill Country Wedding

This past weekend, Greg and I made another out of town trip to see our friends, James & Kendra, get married!!  Yes, I know, we should own stock in Bed, Bath & Beyond based on all the weddings we go to.  But, you know what...I'm not complaining...I'm a sucker for a beautiful wedding!

James was Greg's big brother in Sig Ep and they have always kept contact over the time and the miles.  He was a groomsman in our wedding two years ago, and Greg was honored to stand next to him this weekend.  James and Kendra now live in San Antonio and married there on a gorgeous golf course.  The wedding ceremony was set in front of a beautiful waterfall.  I made sure Greg & I got a picture in front of it...made me excited about Hawaii!  Please forgive my Iphone pictures.  I managed to walk off without our camera that weekend.  Shame on me, considering I just took a photography class on Thursday!!

Kendra was such a gorgeous bride!

I met a new friend at this weekend.  Kate was a college/ first job friend of James' and she and her hubby traveled all the way from New York City for the festivities!  She was the reader in the wedding and is SUCH a sweet girl!  I loved hanging with her this weekend!!

Kendra & James had the cutest whimsical wedding cake!  She is a dog-lover, hence the Lady & the Tramp topper.  This cake is going to be featured in a bridal magazine soon.  Too cool!

Greg also got to see some of his other fraternity brother over the weekend.  I know he enjoyed catching up with everyone!

Finally, they had a photo booth at the reception which was so fun!  Greg and I enjoyed being silly of course...who knew I was married to Elton John??!!

It was such a great weekend in the Texas hill country and we loved visiting with everyone!  James & Kendra, thank you for including us in your day and we hope you are having a blast in St. Lucia!!

Weekend Recap and Countdown to Maui

Happy "It's not Monday Anymore"!!  I neglected to give my weekend recap yesterday because I was so busy dodging rain drops and getting into the swing of our cleanse.  Yes, you heard that right.  Greg & I realized that we are on the 30 day countdown to vacation, so we decided to do a 10 day body cleanse, watch what we eat, and start the 30 Day Shred back up.  I'm so excited that he's doing it with me this time!  I think I do so much better with a workout buddy...call me competitive!

So hopefully, in 30 days, I will be 100% ready to lounge by this pool...

Oh, May 14th, you cannot get here quick enough!!

This weekend was busy but so good!  Friday night, we had dinner with our great friends, Terrence & Kristina!  It was so good to catch up with them and hear about some of their wedding details (they're tying the knot in September!!).

Saturday was spent running some errands, and in particular, stocking up on healthy food for our cleanse/ diet.  That night, we went and had dinner and drinks with our neighbors, Jodi & Alan.  For those of you in the Houston area, we tried out a new bar on the Woodlands Waterway called Bar Louis.  They were super busy, but were having a grand opening special...any resident of the county received a free martini and free appetizer (hello, free dinner!!).  Because of the crowd, the service was a little slow, but the food was great, so we will be back!

Sunday, Greg & I went to church and then met my parents for a crawfish boil afterwards.  Crawfish are one of my favorite parts of being a southerner in the springtime!  Those little critters look gross, but boy are they yummy!!

Perfection!!

When we got home, the rest of the afternoon was spent doing a little yard work, prepping for the week, and cleaning house.  This past week, my sweet co-worker knew I had been having a tough time lately, so she surprised me with a beautiful roses.  So, this weekend, I made sure they were potted so we can enjoy them on the back porch!

It's a busy week for me...lots going on at work, a photography class on Thursday, and then we leave for another wedding on Friday.  If I don't have another chance to check back in, I hope everyone has a great week!

The Benefits of a Good Old Fashioned Business Trip

As I mentioned in my previous post, I'm currently in Chicago visiting one of our remote offices for a few days.  I used to travel regularly for work, but as it often happens during a tough economy, non-essential travel was first to be cut.  But, the need to have me up here for a couple days came up, and I was happy to make a visit.

Although I always miss Greg and my furry babies dearly when I'm gone, I have to say that there are many things I love about traveling on work trips.  Let me preface my list by saying that I do not think I could have a job that required a significant amount of travel.  I am too much of a homebody, and need to be with my hubby more often than not.

1...
First thing I love is seeing my remote co-workers in their elements.  I love meeting face to face with those that I spend so much time on the phone with.  Since I'm in our home office, they come to us more often than we come to them.  I love to see how and where they work, I love to be introduced to their favorite eateries, and just love getting to know them in their setting.

2...
When I travel, I'm not really one to grab dinner and go sit back in my hotel room.  I love leaving the office and taking advantage of my rental car time (this time I'm driving a roller skate...seriously!) and exploring the city.  And to be honest, I enjoy eating out by myself.  Granted, I would probably never do that at home, but there is something liberating about enjoying a nice meal and a glass of wine at a table by yourself and not knowing a sole in the place.

3...
Free airline miles & hotel points...nuff said

4...
Me time...Every once in a while, it's nice to only have to worry about myself.  It's welcoming to be in a hotel room where there are no dishes to clean, clothes to be washed or folded and just generally, no household responsibilities.  And your bed gets magically made while you're gone!!  Like tonight, I had a business dinner, and all I plan on doing now that I'm back in the room is reading my book.  Sometimes I just feel like I don't have time to even pick it up for more than 10 minutes at home.

5...
Finally, one of my absolute favorite things about travelling on business is the SHORT COMMUTE!!  Coming from a girl who drives a good hour plus each way to work, it is really a nice time of reprieve to be at  a hotel literally steps from the office.  Believe me, I take full advantage of sleeping late, getting an early morning work-out or run in, and stopping off for a Starbucks without fearing that I'll be seriously late to the office.

Now, I'm counting the hours to be back on that big bird in the sky tomorrow afternoon and headed back to my bed and my babies.  I miss coming home to Greg and spending our evenings cutting up and being silly.  I miss Prissy & Vegas and all the antics that those two are up to.  I can't wait to walk in that door tomorrow night and get kisses from them all.  Until then, I will enjoy my travels and the good aspects of it all!  Sorry for the boring, no picture post.  This was just fresh on my mind lately and I thought I'd share my thoughts.  What do you all think of business trips?  Do you like a short one every now and then as much as I do?

Side note:  There are plenty of negatives to business travels but we'll leave those to another post for now.  And I'm sure my thoughts on the matter will change tremendously once there are Mini-Smiths in the picture.  :-)

Happy Easter!!

Sunday evening...oh we meet again!  Is it too early to to say "is it Friday yet?"?  Greg & I had a great Easter weekend.  Most of it was pretty low key...got a lot of cleaning done, enjoyed a little retail therapy (getting my Hawaii wardrobe in order...woo hoo!) and spent some time soaking up the gorgeous weather!

Today, we attended a beautiful Easter service at The Woodland United Methodist; we have been visiting for some time.  Afterwards, Jill & Tommy hosted a bunch for friends and family.  There was so much great food and the kiddos enjoyed some egg hunting.  Claire & Kate had their best friends, Emily & Alexandra there to play and celebrate Easter!

How cute are these two??  Kate & Alex are the best of friends and cannot get enough of each other!

On this Good Friday

Happy Easter weekend everyone!

As most of you are home today, I am at work, but not forgetting about the true meaning of Good Friday.  It's not about egg hunts and chocolate bunnies (although those both make me smile like a little kid).  Today, I am focusing on not being selfish and on being a better follower of Jesus Christ.  Right now, there parts of my life that I beg to change.  I pray every day for my Savior to bless my family with these changes.  And even though its hard not to think that He's not listening to my prayers, I know He is and that He DOES have a plan.  Today I reflect on Jesus and how He gave his life for us.  I am remembering that He is forgiving of our sins and has blessed me & Greg with so much more than we ever deserve.  Today I am saying a special prayer for those of you out there that are having these same struggles.  So during this Easter weekend, I am vowing to focus on the good in our lives and not the "wants".

I wish you all a Happy Easter and hope that you remember the reason behind our celebrations on Sunday.  Greg & I will be attending a special church service and then enjoying the afternoon with our family.  We are especially excited to see Easter through the eyes of our nieces, Claire & Kate :-)  No matter what, those two angels can always make me smile!

Weddings...Country Chic Edition

This weekend, Greg and I had the pleasure of traveling to Buda, TX for the wedding of his childhood friend, Heath, and his gorgeous bride, Meredith.  Meredith has amazing taste and the wedding was really the example of a classy southern party!  Greg was honored to stand with Heath as a groomsmen in the wedding and I know I may be a little partial, but I think he was the most handsome of them all :-)  Beware...this is complete picture overload.  There were just too many beautiful and fun details that I had to share!

Meredith was an absolutely stunning bride!  And as you can tell from the ceremony photos, the weather was just perfect!
