A Grand Adventure is About to Begin

I think Winnie the Pooh said it best, "A grand adventure is about to begin!"  So, let me tell you the background story...

Remember that little trip to Maui that Greg & I took back in May?  Well, not only was it one of our favorite vacations to date, turns out, we brought home an extra little souvenier...or as I call it, our specially little "Coconut".  I guess all we needed was some R&R and some fresh tropical air to breathe :-)

Yep, you guessed it!  Our house will be growing by 2 feet around February 8th!  And we could not be more excited!

Greg and I have prayed for a baby for the past 18 months or so, and have fought a hard battle to get where we are today.  So, with this struggle, we are ever so thankful for what God has blessed us with.  We currently are 12 weeks along and the doctor says that we have a healthy, active baby on our hands.  And we cannot wait to meet this little guy or gal.  So, in 6 weeks, we should be able to find out "pink or blue" and start the name game.  I have been so lucky to have had a very smooth pregnancy so far.  But of course, I would appreciate any thoughts and prayers that you have for us and our little "Coco".  I promise to keep you updated on our progress and all the fun stuff that comes along with planning for a baby!

Keep Calm and Hula On

Hey Everyone!  I know, I know...I've been M.I.A. lately.  Things have been super busy with me changing jobs and everything.  Just a quick note on that subject... 3 weeks in and things are going great!  I'm loving the people I work with and I'm never bored (something very important for me).  I am really looking forward to growing with the company and cannot wait to see what is to come!

Back to the main subject...  This weekend, Greg and I hosted, along with our friends Terrence & Kristina, a couples wedding shower for my brother-in-law, Geoff, and his fiance, Laura.  To go along with our hot Houston summer days, the party was a luau complete with lots of leis and Kalua pork (YUM!).  We had a wonderful turn out and everyone had a great time celebrating the Happy Couple!  Geoff and Laura will be honeymooning in Maui in October, so the Hawaiian theme was only fitting.

The beautiful Bride & Groom

I had such a great time with the decorations for this shower!  I simply LOVE all the bright colors and kind of went crazy in Hobby Lobby this summer :-)  An old childhood friend of mine did the cake, and was gorgeous!  Christine is so talented and the cake could not have been more perfect for the theme!

Our friends, Jeff & Michelle, brought their precious little boy Jaxson to the shower!  He was so fun and loved being passed around by all the big people and playing with the dogs.  He even got his first lesson in playing washers!

What a fun evening of friends, family and celebrations!  Geoff & Laura, we all cannot wait for your big day in just a few weeks!!  We love you both!

Fourth of July Recap

First off, I wanted to thank you all for the kind well wishes on the new job. Today went great!  I think I'm really going to love the people I work with!  The staff is really young and energetic.  I just can't wait to get trained so I can jump right in!

Back to the topic at hand...Last Wednesday, we enjoyed a beautiful morning on Lake Conroe with my family.  Long story short...2 years ago, my Dad won a bass boat.  After 2 years and about a total of 3 times on the water (he's really the only avid fisherman in the family), he sold it and bought a a deck boat that can be used for both fishing and "fun stuff".  The weather was great (we beat the heat and the 4th of July crowd) and we broke the boat in nicely!  After the lake, we stopped off for lunch and to celebrate my Mom's birthday (which was Monday).

When we got home, Greg & I got a chance to hang out with our neighbors by the pool and grill.  It ended up being an early night for all of us since we all had to be back at work the next day.  But all in all, we had a great relaxing day celebrating our wonderful Country!

A Weekend of Celebrations

This past weekend, we headed to Greg's home town to celebrate a bunch of important events.  Not only was it his Granddad's birthday, we also had a "Honey-Do" wedding shower for Greg's brother, Geoff, and his fiance Laura, and a baby shower for Greg's cousin, Melanie!  It was such an exciting and wonderful weekend with a lot of family!

The wedding shower was held at a local BBQ restaurant where Geoff was showered with lots of "toys".  I have a feeling there are a lot of projects in his future :-)

Later in the day, we headed over to Aunt Sherrie's to celebrate Melanie and her little "Sprout".  Melanie & her husband Jimmy are keeping their baby's gender a surprise so there were lots of guesses going around that day (my money's on PINK).  Her sister, Allison, and sister-in-law, Kristy, put on the cutest "Very Hungry Caterpillar" themed shower which was absolutely perfect for a kindergarten teacher!

Cutest theme ever!

It was a whirlwind weekend of lots of parties, but it was wonderful to all be together for such fun celebrations!  Now the countdown is on to the wedding and to meet Little Mr. or Miss Sprout!  Congrats Laura & Geoff and Jimmy & Melanie!!

The End of an Era

Lately, there have been some major changes going on in my life.  The biggest being that yesterday was my last day at my job of 7 years.  Yes, 7 years of my 8 1/2 year professional career!  LAN has been my life for the majority of my post-college life.  And now, that life is changing...a surreal feeling!  Knowing that when I wake up on Monday, my car will not drive to West Houston, I will not see the smiling faces of my fun co-workers, and I won't be driving a 1+ hour commute both ways.

The reason behind the move...future family.  Greg and I have done a lot of soul searching lately and decided that as we pray that our family grows soon, we knew that we needed to make some lifestyle changes to accommodate that.  Since my commute was much longer (and much more expensive), it only made sense that I explored other options (and I think the 7 year career itch might have influenced me too).  When a friend of mine approached me with an opportunity in the construction world, I knew it was worth exploring.  I have not actively been using my Construction Science degree, but have longed to get back into the field for some time.  The opportunity seemed meant to be!

I cannot express how much I am going to miss my "family" at LAN and I was quickly reminded of this on Thursday.  My girlfriends there showered me with going-away gifts and my sweet co-workers sent me off with a wonderful reception (including ice cream cake!).  I have been blessed at LAN with the most understanding and compassionate boss (and mentor) and the best co-workers!  They
are all sure to be missed, but I'm looking forward to a lot of lunch dates with them in the future.

So, Monday begins a new chapter in my life, and I could not be more excited!  My sweet husband treated me to a mini-shopping spree to find me some new clothes for my "first day of school".  I'm looking forward to meeting my new work family and learning the ropes at the new gig.  So, say a little prayer for me on Monday that all goes well, and I promise to update you all on how it goes.

Back to the Beach

Last weekend, Greg and I got to spend a long weekend at Galveston's Pirate's Beach with some of our best friends!  A few months back, we attended a local benefit where Greg and his friend, Brandon, bid together on a beach house for a week.  Well, good news was that they won the house, and even better news is that we spent time last weekend enjoying their winnings!

We got there on Sunday evening with a few others who could make it out early.  Well, actually, I was chaperoning Greg and a few of his guy friends the first night.  The guys were well behaved so I was able to crawl in bed early and let them play washers in to the wee hours of the morning :-)

our beautiful home for the weekend

Me catching up on my beach reading, the guys on the first night, Terrence practicing his best "surfer" pose

We spent of Thursday and Friday relaxing at the beach and catching a few waves.  Some of the guys even tried to surf!  It was fabulous to have a couple days off of work, just soaking in some rays.

Dinner on deck Thursday night

The rest of the group made it down either on Friday evening or first thing Saturday morning!  It was a blast having everyone down at the beach together on Saturday.  And I found out I'm actually pretty good at playing horse shoes!  Woo hoo!

And finally, on Saturday night, we all headed out for a nice dinner at the legendary Galveston restaurant, Gaido's!

The dinner was amazing and the company was even better!  I'm not sure if we were delirious or just a little water logged, but I have never laughed more in my life!  I think it was a night we'll all remember for a long time!

Thank you everyone for joining us at the beach!  We enjoyed ever second!
